‘Tassie Tuxedo’ For New Virgin Australia Uniform

Virgin Australia (VA) has teamed up with renowned Australian fashion entrepreneur and Creative Directors Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning and their activewear brand P.E. Nation, to create a new addition to its uniform.

“We always wanted to partner with an airline because travel is so much a part of our brand and a lot of what our label is about connects people to places and the outdoors. This is a dream come true for us,” says Tregoning.

The limited-edition revamped winter uniform will be exclusively for VA crews operating to the island state of Tasmania. This coincides with the airline announcing that it will be increasing services to the island from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

‘Tassie Tuxedo’

New pieces include a sleeveless black high funnel neck puffer vest and hooded bomber jacket. It has been inspired by the tiny island state’s ‘Tassie Tuxedo’ – Tasmanian slang for an outfit paired with a puffer jacket. The jacket features a gold-plated centre front zip and has elevated water and wind repellent material.

Sustainability is critical within aviation, and these new apparel items are no exception. Made from 100% recycled polyester and fitted with metal trims and recycled labels, crew will wear them over Virgin Australia’s signature uniform.

P.E. Nation co-founder Pip Edwards says the new look is ‘fashionable but also functional.’

“Function and comfort are key to our daily lives, and the black puffer jacket is a staple in everyone’s wardrobe.”

Launch

The new-look was launched during a special ‘black-tie’ inspired event on a VA flight from Melbourne to Hobart on Wednesday, June 1. The flight saw a specially curated menu, including Brady’s Lookout aged ciders matched with handmade Tasmanian chocolates from Anvers Chocolate and a cheesy flight courtesy of Ashgrove Cheese.

“We couldn’t be more excited to align with the dream team: clean, green, pristine and pure Tasmania; and energetic, future-focused Virgin Australia,” P.E Nation Co-Founders said in a statement.
