Jet2 Crew Attacked During Flight To Tenerife

A Jet2.com flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Tenerife South Airport on Friday, December 5, after a crew member was allegedly assaulted during a flight from Edinburgh. The incident took place on flight LS739, operated by one of the carrier’s Airbus A321neos.

The flight had departed the Scottish capital at 07:49 local time, just 40 minutes before all flights were grounded at the airport due to an IT issue with its Air Traffic Control.

Reports on X state that a “scuffle” broke out mid-flight, during which one of the crew members was assaulted. The crew then requested police and medical assistance upon arrival in the Canary Islands.

The post on X said: “Incident onboard a flight from Edinburgh arriving in South Tenerife. The crew requests medical assistance and police presence upon arrival for a flight where, apparently, they would have assaulted the TCP. We cut the approach to the maximum with priority.”

Tenerife ATC is reported to have offered support to the “crew and passengers” who had to “endure these unpleasant situations.”

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “We can confirm that police were called to offload a disruptive passenger from flight LS739 earlier today.”

My thoughts are with the crew member involved and their colleagues. Disruptive passenger incidents are unacceptable, and it gravely concerns me that something could happen to a member of our aviation family before airlines and aviation authorities take more serious action on the issue.
